Ken Watanabe in the Running for Prime Akira Role?

More could-be casting news coming in for Warner Brothers’ big screen adaptation of Akira… apparently Gary Oldman is now out of the picture, and an offer is out for another gristly tough guy to take on what would have been his role.
According to Twitch the part of The Colonel is now being offered to Ken Watanabe (pictured right; Inception, Batman Begins).
Twilight‘s Kristen Stewart (Adventureland, The Runaways) has been offered the part of Kei, a young medium who becomes the love interest for Kaneda – the role already offered to Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy).
Helena Bonham Carter has also been offered a part in the Warner Bros. backed US adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s classic manga.
No one has officially signed on for active duty just yet, but we’ll keep an eye on things for you. More as soon as it comes.
