Is there Really a JACOB’S LADDER Remake Hitting Theaters on February 1st?

We’re not even finished with November, but when you live horror like I do, you’re always keeping an eye on what’s coming down the pike. Any genre flick that’s less than 90 days from its stated release date is on my radar—you’d better believe it! Which is why, I’m especially curious about the long-rumored Jacob’s Ladder remake; according to both Upcoming Horror Movies and IMDB, the film will be arriving in theaters on February 1st.
This wouldn’t be the first time even these respected industry databases have gotten their wires crossed. I mean, one of them (I won’t say which) had me certain Tony Todd’s Sky Sharks was hitting theaters last April (the film has yet to be screened—anywhere). Still, on director David M. Rosenthal’s IMDB page, it insists Jacob’s Ladder has been completed. And yet, I have doubts.
We’ve heard nothing about the film’s production; nada. It’s also a mere 68-days until the remake’s stated release date, and we haven’t seen a poster, an official synopsis, and we most certainly haven’t seen a trailer. The film does appear on LD Entertainment’s list of upcoming releases but doesn’t include a release date. I’ve personally put in a call to the folks at LD and will keep you apprised on their response (if they do, in fact, respond that is).
Besides the film’s appearance on a few databases, here’s everything we know about the Jacobs Ladder so far:
Preliminary Synopsis:
After returning home from the Vietnam War, veteran Jacob Singer struggles to maintain his sanity. Plagued by hallucinations and flashbacks, Singer rapidly falls apart as the world and people around him morph and twist into disturbing images. A remake of the 1990 thriller starring Tim Robbins.
Rosenthal directed from a script co-scribed by Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorpe and stars Jesse Williams, Joseph Sikora, and Karla Souza. This project was originally described as a contemporary homage to the original Jacob’s Ladder that introduces new situations and characters, “though it will pose similar existential questions regarding life, death, reality, and perception.” Karla Souza plays “Annie/Angel, a trauma nurse who works with Jacob’s medical crew in Afghanistan.” Guy Burnet plays “Hoffman, a pharmacist at the Veteran’s Administration described as “smart, but chaotic” who supplies Jacob with prescriptions.” While Williams is listed as the film’s lead, his character is not named on IMDB, so we don’t even know if he’s Jacob.
When/if I hear back from LD, I’ll pass along whatever I learn about the Jacob’s Ladder remake, supposedly arriving in US theaters on February 1st. Stay tuned!
