We’ve been following the news of Todd Phillips’ Joker movie with a mixture of curiosity and dread—and I’m not talking about the good type of dread used in our namesake (that feeling of electric excitement), dread as in: “Why do we need an origin story for The Joker? His mysterious and unknown history are part of this eternal appeal,” you what I’m saying?
For better or worse, Joker will be hitting US theaters on October 4th, 2019 and, today, we’re getting our first official synopsis from producers. It’s short but pretty sweet:
Joker centers around the iconic arch-nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.
In addition to Phoenix, Joker will star Robert DiNero, Frances Conroy, and Shea Whigham. It’s currently in front of cameras, so don’t expect a trailer anytime soon, but we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground in order to bring you all Joker-related news as details emerge. Stay tuned!
