Legendary FX/Creature Designer Kevin Yagher Sets his Sites on GRUMMY

We’ve seen his creature skills on display in films like Child’s Play, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Tales from the Crypt. Now, legendary FX Master Kevin Yagher is working on the short film Grummy. Helmed by the husband and wife creative team of Micheline Pitt and R.H. Norman, it’s a story about the power of imagination in overcoming adversity.

According to Pitt, “This story is very personal because I was this little girl. I used my imagination to escape; I used books, movies, and toys to get away. If I didn’t have my imagination, if I didn’t have these things, I don’t think I would be here today. This is a story of how monsters saved my life.”

Here’s the scoop from yesterday’s press release:

Pitt and Norman are enlisting the help of their wide reach of fans via a Kickstarter campaign, hoping to raise upwards of $130,000. According to Norman, “Building a believable monster and world is just as expensive for a short as it is for a feature,” he says. “For example, a monster suit with animatronics can easily cost $100,000 alone. While we’re fortunate to have many volunteers on our team, our goal of $95,000 is the bare minimum by which we can produce this film.” To further incentivize contributions, Pitt and Norman are offering attractive, limited edition items for various donor levels, including a hardcover children’s book serving as a prequel to the film, fully written and illustrated by Micheline Pitt, an art book featuring an all-star roster of artists including Guy Davis, Eric Powell, Chet Zar, and Jorge R. Gutierrez, digital downloads of the film, and rare, private tours of Kevin Yagher’s effects studio.
