DON’T HUG ME I’M SCARED TV Series is Coming to America

There’s an entire Internet subculture dedicated to exploring and debating the most WTF videos from YouTube’s darkest corners. You’ve heard about Suicide Mouse, Obey the Walrus, and I Feel Fantastic, but are you familiar with the subversive web-series Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared? Mix Sesame Street and Five Nights at Freddy’s in a blender, along with a few drops of LSD, and you can begin to imagine it… maybe!

The surreal horror comedy is the brainchild of British filmmakers Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling, who will be bringing their signature blend of frivolity and fever dream to American audiences in the form of a new TV series. Deadline got the scoop:

A U.S. TV version of the British web series is in the works at Turner’s Super Deluxe Studio. It comes from Blink Industries, producers of the original shorts, and Conan O’Brien’s Conaco. A spec pilot has been produced with plans to shop it to streaming or cable networks.

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared premiered in 2011 and released their lasted episode in 2016; while we haven’t seen anything new in years, Deadline’s announcement was accompanied by a new, 30-second teaser (titled “Wakey Wakey”). You can check it out at the bottom of the article, following Episode 1 of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.

It may be a while before anything significant comes to fruition, but we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground in order to bring you additional details as they emerge. Stay tuned!

Synopsis:
A singing notebook tells 3 puppets to be creative. They singalong but they’re not creative as they should be. The notebook has crazy feelings about organs.
