Documentary MEMORY: THE ORIGINS OF ALIEN Will Include Previously Unseen Material

Almost four decades after its release, Alien remains one of the most lauded and studies horror/sci-fi film ever made; it’s considered a must-watch for cinema fans of every disposition. While much has been revealed about director Ridley Scott and his contributions to the film’s success, a new documentary, Memory: The Origins of Alien looks more at screenwriter Dan O’Bannon and designer H.R. Giger (the founding pioneer of an artform dubbed bio-mechanical).

Starting at TIFF, Paris-based Indie Sales is seeking worldwide distribution for Memory: The Origins of Alien (directed by Alexandre O. Philippe and producer Exhibit A Pictures); ScreenDaily got the exclusive:

The filmmakers said Memory – The Origins of Alien will reveal previously unseen materials from the archives of writer Dan O’Bannon and designer H.R. Giger, including story notes, drawings, designs, behind-the-scenes footage, and O’Bannon’s original 29-page Memory script from 1971. Philippe and Exhibit A Pictures have also conducted interviews of the film’s cast and crew, and relatives of O’Bannon and Giger.

“Memory is, full-on, a mythological deep dive into one of the films that influenced me to become a filmmaker, and a long-overdue tribute to its creator and writer Dan O’Bannon,” said Philippe.

Synopsis:
In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.
