Confirmed: Joaquin Phoenix is JOKER

It’s been rumored for a while now, but it looks like Joaquin Phoenix is officially playing The Joker in producer Martin Scorsese’s Joker Origin Film from writer-director Todd Phillips (The Hangover).
Word just dropped via THR that Phillips co-wrote the script with Scott Silver, and the movie is being described as “an exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”
Jared Leto’s Joker spin-off film is still headed our way as well.
This Joker is produced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Richard Baratta is an executive producer. There’s isn’t word on a release date, but it was also confirmed that shooting will begin in September in New York.
