Exclusive: THE SCHOOL Stills Suggest a Lot of Children Need Detention

Making its world premiere at Monsterfest Adelaide as the Opening Film is The School, a new fantasy horror about a mother who will do whatever it takes to bring her comatose son from beyond the grasp of death. The film was shot in Australia’s oldest mental asylum, which dates back to the 1800’s where 1,200 unmarked graves reside and where staff used to practice electroshock therapy and lobotomies.

To give you an idea of the visual aesthetic that the film is going for, we’ve got several exclusive stills for you to see below. Personally, I’m getting a strong vibe of The Lord of the Flies-meets-Silent Hill-meets-Re-cycle. Considering the intense themes running through each of those properties, I’m hoping that we see something really special with The School, which we’re told was purchased at Cannes and will be getting North American distribution, although no release date or timeframe was given.

When a doctor looking for her missing child awakens to find herself in an abandoned school, she must survive the supernatural terror and face her own demons if she is to find the truth about where her son is.

Written and directed by Storm Ashwood, The School stars Nicholas Hope, Megan Drury, Will McDonald, Texas Watterston, Milly Alcock, and Jack Ruwald. It was produced by Jim Robison and Blake Northfield.
