HBO picks up True Blood seriesWhen we last told you about the series “True Blood” (“Paquin, Moyer to Wallow in Blood” – April 2007), apparently it wasn’t even a series yet but rather just a pilot with the hopes and dreams of being a series.

Today those hopes came true as The Hollywood Reporter is announcing that HBO has officially picked up “True Blood”, which is based on the Southern Gothic book series by Charlaine Harris, for part of its forthcoming lineup. Production on the first season is expected to get under way this fall, though neither an air date nor the number of episodes has been determined yet.

The series was created by Alan Ball, who fans may recall as the creator of “Six Feet Under”, so needless to say he’s happy to be back in with the HBO crowd again for what I’m sure will be a cool crossover show.

Anna Paquin stars as an innocent waitress in a small town who can read minds. Stephen Moyer plays a vampire, commonplace in the world the show is set in, who causes a bit of a Romeo & Juliet situation when he falls in love with the human. Hey, as long as there’s actually blood and a lot of Paquin, I’ll be there, sappy romance or not.
