Blumhouse and Facebook Team for New Series Based on THE HANDLESS MAIDEN

Blumhouse Television and Facebook Watch are joining forces for a new series from the producers of True Blood, Raelle Tucker and Scott Winant, currently titled Sacred Lies.

The half-hour eight-episode series is an inventive twist on the classic Grimms’ Brothers tale, The Handless Maiden and the novel, The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by Stephanie Oakes.

The series follows the story of Minnow Bly the handless heroine who escapes a cult and finds herself in juvenile detention, suspected of knowing who killed her cult leader, played by Toby Huss (Blumhouse’s Halloween).

This is a young female protagonist we’ve never seen on screen before,” Tucker said. “She’s complex, brave, funny…and sometimes dangerous. And she has no hands. But she refuses to let that, or her bizarre, brutal past define her or limit herThat’s the message of our series: no matter what life throws at you – ultimately only you have the power to decide what you believe and what you become. I’m beyond excited and honored to bring this unique, inspiring, badass character to life.”

The story was originally written by Oakes and adapted to the screen by Tucker, who will serve as executive producer and showrunner. Winant will executive produce and direct the first two episodes. Also serving as executive producers on behalf of Blumhouse Television are Jason Blum, Marci Wiseman, and Jeremy Gold.

Raelle and Scott are known for pushing the envelope with complex characters, mixing genres and diving into dramatically dark subjects, which is also a hallmark of Blumhouse storytelling,” Wiseman and Gold said in a joint statement. “Sacred Lies is an inventive twist on a time-honored fairytale which we believe will surprise and stir the Facebook Watch audience and we’re excited to be the studio producing this provocative series.”

The series also stars Elena Kampouris, Kevin Carroll, Kiana Madeira and Ryan Robbins. Facebook Watch can be viewed on mobile, desktop and Facebook’s TV apps. Are you excited about this series?
