THE CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE Pouncing onto Blu-ray Next Month
The Curse of the Cat People will be released on Blu-ray for the first time by Scream Factory on June 26. Originally released in 1944, the film was a sequel to Cat People, which was released two years prior, with Kent Smith returning as Oliver Reed, a father who thinks his daughter may have fallen influence to his deceased first wife (played by Simone Simon, also returning), who was descended from a race of mythical cat people.
The film was co-directed by Gunther von Fritsch and Robert Wise, the latter of whom went on the helm classics including West Side Story, The Haunting, The Sound of Music, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It also starred Jane Randolph, Ann Carter, Sir Lancelot, and Julia Dean.
The Blu-ray will include audio commentaries from historians Steve Haberman and Greg Mank, trailers and stills, and a video essay by filmmaker Constantine Nasr called Lewton’s Muse: The Dark Eyes Of Simone Simon. As this classic film has never before graced the Blu-ray format with its presence, we can’t wait to get our hands (or paws) on it when it releases next month.
