Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board the Latest Kids Game to Get Horror Version

I was thinking after Blumhouse brought us the recent (relative) hit Truth or Dare that other studios would be mining the annals of childhood for other games to bring to the screen with a horrific spin. And it looks like I was right on the money as today we have word via Deadline that Hulu as just picked up a new teen-horror series based around the classic sleepover game Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board.

What’s next Red Rover?

The new series is fittingly been shortened to Light as a Feather and has been given a 10-episode straight-to-series order from AwesomenessTV, Wattpad, and Kelsey Grammer’s Grammnet. The supernatural thriller is based on a story by Zoe Aarsen that has more than 2.9M reads on Wattpad.

When I first joined Wattpad, I set out to create something unique, exploring characters and a world where female empowerment, friendship, and supernatural forces come together,” author Aarsen said. “Wattpad is a place where people come together and connect over stories, discussing every twist and cliffhanger, so it was the perfect platform for my story. Teen horror is my passion, so I can’t wait to be able to share Light as a Feather with other horror aficionados on Hulu.”

Light as a Feather is a captivating and unique story, with supernatural twists and thrills that readers all over the world have fallen in love with,” said Aron Levitz, Head of Wattpad Studios. “The story is another example of a Wattpad fan favorite that is perfect for adaptation and new life on another platform.”

Creator Lee Fleming Jr. also executive produces and showruns alongside Jordan Levin, Shelley Zimmerman, Joe Davola, Brett Bouttier, Aron Levitz, Eric Lehrman, Kelsey Grammer, Tom Russo, Brian Sher and Stella Bulochnikov. Kailey Marsh is co-executive producer. AwesomenessTV and Hulu previously collaborated on horror series Freakish.

Production is slated to begin in June.

Synopsis:

Five teenage girls deal with the supernatural fallout stemming from an innocent game of “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board.” When the girls start dying off in the exact way that was predicted, the survivors must figure out why they’re being targeted — and whether the evil force hunting them down is one of their own.
