Todd McFarlane Praises Steven Spielberg For Spawn’s Cameo In Ready Player One

As you probably know by now, Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One features an absolute ton of cameos from popular culture characters. However, one of the most unexpected appearances in the film happens to come from the iconic comic character known as Spawn, who can briefly be seen taking part in the climactic final battle. Spawn creator Todd McFarlane was clearly delighted by how Spielberg chose to use his character in the film, as he released a video on his Facebook page celebrating Spawn’s appearance.

Spawn debuted in his own Image Comics-published series in 1992, and he went on to become arguably one of the most popular and recognizable non-Marvel or DC comic characters of all time. Aside from his appearance in Ready Player One, the last time we saw Spawn on the big screen was in his solo 1997 movie, although a reboot is currently being developed by Blumhouse.

Based on the novel by Ernest Cline, Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, and T.J. Miller, and has currently grossed $181 million worldwide. Other horror characters who make appearances include Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Chucky, Jack Torrence and the twins from The Shining, King Kong, Mechagodzilla, Duke Nukem, the Cyclops from The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, the skeleton warriors from Jason and the Argonauts, and of course, the Tyrannosaurus rex from Spielberg’s own Jurassic Park. There do not seem to be any pictures of Spawn from the film available online, so you will just have to go and see Ready Player One at your local movie theater to see him in action.
