Life is strange sometimes. In what has got to be some of the oddest news we’ve heard in a long time, John Travolta has just been announced to be joining forces with Fred Durst for his new film, Moose.

For those who might not know, Durst is (was?) the lead singer of 90’s rap-rock band Limp Bizkit but turned his attention to directing feature films after a long career in music videos. Durst’s features include The Education of Charlie Banks and The Longshots.

Anyhow, today Variety reports that Travolta will star in Durst’s new thriller along with Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Idle Hands). Travolta plays the title character, “a rabid movie fan obsessed with his favorite celebrity action hero, portrayed by Devon Sawa,” and “as Moose’s obsession grows stronger, his fixation turns from stalking to the ambition of destroying the star’s life.”

The movie is inspired by a real-life fan who stalked Durst many years ago.

Moose is directed by Fred Durst from a script written by Durst and Dave Bekerman and the movie stars John Travolta and Devon Sawa. Producers are Andrea Iervolino, Monika Bacardi, Oscar Generale,  Daniel Grodnik. Executive producers are David Gilbery, Charles Dorfman,  Richard Salvatore, Kirk Shaw, Bret Saxon, and Jeff Bowler. Ambi Pictures and Media Finance Capital fully financed the film.

Principal photography is now underway in Alabama.

Synopsis:

A rabid movie fan (Travolta) is obsessed with his favorite celebrity action hero (Devon Sawa) and as Moose’s obsession grows stronger, his fixation turns from stalking to the ambition of destroying the star’s life — inspired by a real-life fan who stalked Fred Durst.
