A Nightmare Awakens In Soulcalibur VI

Nightmare has been one of the most popular characters in the Soulcalibur franchise since the first game, Soul Edge, hit arcades back in 1995. So, fans will probably be thrilled to see the demonic warrior return in the latest trailer for Soulcalibur VI, where he dishes out some nasty moves against his opponents. Throughout the trailer, producer Motohiro Okubo talks us through why he thinks Nightmare has gone on to become such a strong staple of the franchise.

In the world of Soul, Siegfried Schtauffen was a warrior who became corrupted by a demonic sword known as the Soul Edge, which bonds symbiotically to its host. Eventually, the sword would separate from Schtauffen’s body and grow into a living entity of its own, becoming the Nightmare character adored by fans.

Soulcalibur VI will be published by Bandai Namco Entertainment on PS4, Xbox One, and PC later this year. And it will probably be the most critically acclaimed fighting game of 2018, unless the rumors of Nintendo releasing a new Super Smash Bros. title around Christmas prove to be true.

Interestingly, CD Project Red’s Marcin Momot recently tweeted that Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of the Witcher franchise, will be appearing in a non-Witcher game later this year, which many are assuming will be Soulcalibur VI. Which would make sense, as the Soulcalibur franchise has played host to a ton of guest characters over the years, including Yoda, Darth Vader, Kratos, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Link, and Todd McFarlane’s Spawn.

Let us know in the comments if you are looking forward to pitting Nightmare up against Geralt in Soulcalibur VI.
