For decades now we’ve been crazy about actor Michael Keaton. From his portrayal of Batman to his stint in the afterlife as Beetlejuice, the actor knows full well how to bring an unbalanced nature to his roles, and in the new flick Penthouse North he’ll be bringing some true psycho to the big screen.
From the Press Release
Michael Keaton and Michelle Monaghan will star in PENTHOUSE NORTH, a taut psychological thriller from director Joseph Ruben, producer Jeff Sackman announced today.
Ruben was elated with his stars. “Michelle Monaghan is an incredible actor whom audiences love and connect with completely. And Michael Keaton can do it all. He has a special talent for creating complicated villains who are dark, charming and ultimately terrifying. Put these actors together, and you’ve got the makings for a hell of a thriller.”
The plot centers on Sara (Monaghan), a photojournalist haunted by a tragic event, who has escaped from the world in an upscale New York penthouse. But the world comes after her with a vengeance in the form of Hollander (Keaton), a smooth but sadistic criminal looking for a hidden fortune. Trapped and cut off from the rest of the world, Sara must find the inner strength to survive as an increasingly desperate Hollander terrorizes her, building to an explosive climax that will have audiences on the edge of their seats.
Keaton, who is executive producing, was most recently seen in the feature THE OTHER GUYS, TOY STORY 3 (voice) and POST-GRAD. In 2008 he directed his first feature, in which he also starred, THE MERRY GENTLEMAN.
Monaghan stars in Marc Forster’s upcoming MACHINE GUN PREACHER, which has its world premiere at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. Her other films include the recent hit thriller SOURCE CODE as well as MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III, GONE BABY GONE, TRUCKER, EAGLE EYE, NORTH COUNTRY, and KISS KISS BANG BANG. Monaghan will also soon be seen in BOOT TRACKS opposite Stephen Dorff and Willem Dafoe as well as the comedy GUS opposite Radha Mitchell.
Ruben directed the classic Julia Roberts-thriller SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY, the alien-invasion thriller THE FORGOTTEN and the original THE STEPFATHER.
The script was written by David Loughery, whose credits include OBSESSED, LAKEVIEW TERRACE and the upcoming NURSE 3D.
Ruben and Loughery will produce the film with Sackman, Michael Baker and Jon Shiffman. Production begins this fall in Ottawa, Ontario.
Lionsgate is handling international sales.
