Actress Lone Fleming has had an absolutely extraordinary career in the horror industry. Over the years, she’s appeared in a multitude of classic genre films such as Tombs of the Blind Dead, Return of the Blind Dead, Evil Eye, The Possessed, Vampyres, and Where Time Began. Her husband Eugenio Martín is also a well known figure among fans of our genre, as he directed the 1972 classic Horror Express, which starred Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. To learn more about Lone’s amazing horror career, be sure to check the recent interview she kindly granted to us.

Lone is currently raising funds on the crowdfunding website Verkami for her directional debut, the horror short The Barefoot Virgin (original title: La Virgen Descalza). Based on her own novel, Lone also served as producer in addition to painting the film’s gorgeous storyboards and designing the costumes. Some of her concept art pieces are included at the bottom of the page.

The Barefoot Virgin will center around a young woman who discovers on the night before her wedding that her aunt is planning to sell her off in return for money and land. As she becomes overwhelmed with anger and sadness, she is visited by a mysterious supernatural entity who recognizes her as the reincarnation of the woman he once loved. Lone has said that there will also be a decapitation in the film, so things will be getting nasty.

I’ve met Lone in person and even sat next to her during a screening of her film A Candle For The Devil, and she is truly the most kind and pleasant celebrity you could ever hope to encounter. I was sure to give her some cash I had on hand to go towards The Barefoot Virgin, and she was also nice enough to let me take a few pictures with her, one of which you can view below.

The Barefoot Virgin will star Sandra Alberti, Laura de la Vega, Antonio Mayans, Luisa Torregosa, Oscar Cabrera, and Paquita Moya. It’s slowly closing in on its goal of €4,000, so head over to Verkami to help give life to this very unique sounding film.
