Rachel Belofsky Talks Screamfest 2017
Rachel Belofsky, the busy lady behind the Los Angeles Screamfest Horror Film Festival, paused to answer a few questions about what fans can expect this year as the shebang kicks off on October 10 and runs through the 19th. Now in its 17th year, this celebration of horror features, shorts, and documentaries promises to be fun of spooky fun!
Dread Central: What’s your most treasured Screamfest memory?
Rachel Belofsky: One of my most treasured Screamfest memories is when an attendee surprised me with a bouquet of flowers because I got him a seat at the 30 Days of Night premiere. It really was incredibly sweet.
DC: What do you look forward to most, at this year’s event?
RB: We always look forward to meeting all the new filmmakers and seeing alumni attend.
DC: Your parties are legendary! Where will this year’s be held?

RB: Opening party is a Lucky Strike. We are having several parties this year at the Hollywood Roosevelt.
DC: What’s your biggest Screamfest “fangirl” moment?
RB: I’d have to say when James Franco attended. He bought a poster from our vendor and I had to key in his credit card # on my phone to process the card because our key reader died. I was like “OMG are kidding me right now?!” He was standing over my shoulder so my fingers kept hitting the wrong keys. And I was really dying inside!
DC: What’s the best compliment you ever got on the fest?
RB: The best compliments we receive are when are programming is praised.
DC: How has being a festival director enhanced your love of the horror genre?
RB: It has provided me with the opportunity to see films from all around the world.
