Teen Wolf’s Tyler Posey Joins MTV’s Scream
With his “Teen Wolf” days now officially behind him, series star Tyler Posey is staying in the MTV family of programming. Up next for him? According to THR, Posey will join the rebooted third season of the network’s “Scream” adaptation.
Season 3 of the now-anthology reboot revolves around Deion Elliot (RJ Cyler), a local star running back whose tragic past comes back to haunt him at the worst time, threatening his hard-earned plans for his future — and the lives of his unlikely group of friends.
Posey will play the series regular role of Shane, a high school dropout. The character is described as a drug dealer and party promoter who is always hustling in order to make money. But beneath that exterior, there’s more to Shane than anyone realizes.
The cast also includes Keke Palmer (“Scream Queens”), Giorgia Whigham (“13 Reasons Why”), Jessica Sula (“Recovery Road,” “Skins”), Giullian Yao Gioiello (“Julie’s Greenroom”), Tyga (aka Michael Ray Stevenson), and C.J. Wallace.
Brett Matthews (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Supernatural”) serves as the franchise’s third showrunner and executive produces alongside new arrivals including Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere, and Yaneley Arty for Flavor Unit Entertainment. They join original exec producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein for Dimension TV, the late Wes Craven, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena, and Cathy Konrad.
In addition to the new cast, anthology format, and story, the production is being relocated to Atlanta. “Scream’s” six-episode third season will air as a three-night event in March on MTV. A specific premiere date has not been announced.
