Now They’re Remaking Troll?
I believe if you check the “movies in need of a remake” meter you will find Troll sandwiched rather low down the scale somewhere between Eddie Macon’s Run and Ratboy. But Bloody Disgusting is reporting an exclusive – a remake of the Charles Band-produced/John Carl Buechler-directed 1986 campy horror flick Troll is in the works.
For the uninitiated, Troll is one of those movies you’ll either find amusing in a cheesy bad movie sort of way or you’ll find yourself with a new appreciation for the Leprechaun flicks. The original was about an evil troll named Torok using a magic ring to transform the denizens of an apartment complex into plant pods and other supernatural beings for nefarious purposes, only to meet his demise after being defeated by a young boy named … I swear I’m not making this up … Harry Potter!
The cast included the likes of Michael Moriarty, Sonny Bono, June Lockhart, Shelly Hack, Brad Hall and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in roles I’m sure they’d rather not be reminded about. Though in the late Sonny Bono’s case, that’s a moot point now.
According to BD, the remake’s plot will be “about a young boy enters a parallel world of wizards and magic where he befriends a good witch. Soon the boy learns that he must save the world from an evil Troll/Wizard that has the ability to hide his essence within the bodies of others.” No other details at this time other than the site stating the film’s budget will be “substantial.”
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m just going to sit back and await the no doubt imminent announcement that someone in Hollywood has decided to remake Hardbodies.
