Silence Looking for New Title

The new film from director and co-writer James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell (pictured), originally titled Shhhh… until it was fairly quickly changed to Silence, is once again looking for a title.

I was at a test screening of the film last night (review here), and the film had the temporary title of Dead Silence in the opening credits. Afterwards I had the chance to speak to Leigh about the ongoing search for a new title. “Apparently Martin Scorsese has the title of Silence locked up,” he told me, “so we are looking at a few other options right now.” Leigh had suggested The Doll as one possibility, and personally that’s my choice.

So far The Doll seems to be best choice, but producer Mark Burg chimed in that he was also up for calling it Mary Shaw, after the main character in the film. A decision will have to be made soon as the trailer will be debuting in front of Saw III in October, and we can expect the film to open early next year.
