Cloverfield Cast, History

Lizzy Caplan stars in CloverfieldHere’s something for you New Yorkers to keep an eye out for; people running around with camcorders looking scared. Well, more scared than the average tourist finding themselves on the wrong block, that is.

Why other than the obvious inherit comedy? The Hollywood Reporter got word that that is where the top-secret monster movie Cloverfield is being shot, with cameras having rolled last month. Most of the YouTube postings that had shown up from camcorder recordings of the trailer, which played in front of Transformers, have been removed thanks to Paramount, but something tells me that’s not going to kill the hype.

The film, it has been discovered, stars Michael Stahl-David (“The Black Donnellys”), Mike Vogel (The Deaths of Ian) and Lizzy Caplan (pictured, Mean Girls). According to the trade the veil of secrecy has been very thick from the outset, the film having been greenlit shortly after producer J.J. Abrams agreed to do the next Star Trek movie, with casting agents simply being asked if their clients wanted to be in a movie or not, sans script pages or synopsis.

Now, see, that’s the way to do it if you ask me. Nothing is a secret anymore thanks to the internet (yes, it’s all our fault), so studios have to become more and more secretive if they want something to miss our radar. Good to see someone’s doing it right! Now, if only we could get a decent look at that trailer online…

But wait, there’s more! A new blog has shown up for the sole purpose of discussing how someone named Ethan was wrong. Within is a link to a site about how Ethan was right, and within that is a very odd game you can play with the strange ball that shows up with a skyline in the background. It’s all very mysterious and I love it!
