Halcyon International Pictures has updated their website with word of several news small budgeted genre pics featuring alien, android, and zombie invaders, as well as updates of Dracula and The Mummy under their “Famous Monsters of Filmland” banner.
One thing is absolutely certain: Battle: Los Angeles has been a huge influence on their marketing department. Take for example a Halcyon movie titled Day 2 (original story here) that I wrote about last year which combines an alien invasion with a zombie invasion. The title has since been changed to Battle NY: Day 2.
Los Angeles is also the setting of Alien Armageddon, in case the tag line “The Battle for Los Angeles Has Begun” didn’t clue you in.
“An alien race invades Earth, destroying all the major cities of the world, leaving Los Angeles as the last remaining city left to fight back.”
As is annoyingly the case with Halcyon, their website info remains vague to non-existent when it comes to matters of who the stars and filmmakers are. In this case, I can tell you the director is named Neil Johnson. I only know this because I saw his name at the end of the trailer. Admittedly, the Alien Armageddon trailer is quite impressive for such a low budget production. Give it a look.
They also have Android Insurrection in the works. No other details are available aside from a one sentence synopsis: “Soldiers on a alien planet battle Androids that have become self-aware and seek to destroy mankind.” The promotional artwork is pretty sweet.
Dark Passenger (trailer here) appears to be a little more on the horrific side. “Two friends on a road trip find themselves embroiled in an FBI manhunt for an extraterrestrial, deception and murder.” Who made it? Who does it star? Can’t tell you anything else because even the trailer doesn’t list any credits. I can tell you it looks like your typical psycho hitchhiker movie until someone starts shooting lasers from their eyes.
Halcyon announced last year they had made a deal with a “Famous Monsters of Filmland” to produce a series of low budget reboots of several classic movie monsters.
The first is Dracula: Reborn (trailer here), which I told you about last Halloween, transplants Bram Stoker’s classic tale to modern day Los Angeles. Victoria Summer of The Zombie Diaries stars as Mina Harker. Corey Landis, one of the stars of Dinocroc vs. Supergator, co-stars as Johnathan Harker. In the role of Dracula himself is Stuart McKenna, an actor whose most high profile credit to this day would appear to be that of a Tom Cruise look-a-like in Meet the Spartans.
The second has just begun production. This time its The Mummy: Resurrected.
“The second film in the FAMOUS MONSTERS:REBOOT SERIES, THE MUMMY: RESURRECTED is based on the Bram Stoker novel, JEWEL OF THE SEVEN STAR. The story revolves around a team of archaeologists who discover an ancient mummy, releasing it from its eternal tomb.”
Teaser artwork. No other details. They seriously need to start including details, especially since most of these films aren’t even listed on IMDB as of now.
