Last year Kevin Tancharoen took a huge career gamble. The director, who had mostly been know in the industry for his work on various dance projects, decided it was time to fulfill a lifelong dream and set off to make his Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short film as a calling card to pursue helming a new feature-film adaptation of the gaming franchise.

Little did he know that Mortal Kombat: Rebirth would get leaked online and become an instantaneous hit with gaming fans last year. Now Tancharoen is back with his brand new web series entitled Mortal Kombat: Legacy, which debuted earlier today, that gives viewers a look into the origins of some of the game’s most iconic characters.

Exclusive Video Interview: Director Kevin Tancharoen Talks Mortal Kombat: Legacy

Mortal Kombat: Legacy stars Michael Jai White (Spawn), Jeri Ryan (“Star Trek: Voyager”), Darren Shahlavi (300), and Ian Anthony Dale (“The Event). Tancharoen collaborated with Mortal Kombat game creator Ed Boon as well as Aaron and Todd Helbing on the web series’ scripts. The web series is being released by Warner Bros. Digital Distribution exclusively in conjunction with gaming entertainment site Machinima.com.

Recently Dread Central sat down with Tancharoen to discuss his inspirations for making both Mortal Kombat: Rebirth and Legacy, why he decided to go in a more realistic storytelling approach for both projects, and what he’d love to do if he gets to turn his web series into a full-fledged feature film.
