Did You Know That Godzilla Faced Off Against the Greek Gods?

Last summer, IDW released a mini-series titled Godzilla: Rage Across Time. Consisting of five issues, it saw the King of the Monsters battle through various periods across history, including feudal Japan, medieval England, BC-era Rome, and even back to the so-called “Age of Monsters”!

But it was the second issue of this series that showcased the true power of the giant lizard when he traveled to ancient Greece and fought against the legendary Greek Gods of old, such as Poseidon, Ares, and even Zeus himself! We’ve seen Godzilla face off against dozens of monstrous foes but going against the might of not one God but several? That’s awesome (proper definition) stuff!

The story begins when two warring human factions are utterly destroyed by the titular beast. Unaware of Godzilla, the slaughter of these factions leads the Pantheon of Greek Gods to discuss their current situation, to recognize that they are in a place where the humans recognize them but no longer call for their aid. While some of the Gods see this as an issue that needs to be addressed, Zeus, in all his ego, dismisses them and their concerns. Suddenly, Godzilla lands at the foot of Mount Olympus, a huge wave washing away the city at the foot of the mountain. It is there that the battle between Godzilla and the Gods takes place.

I won’t spoil the rest of the story for you but it’s pretty damn epic. If Godzilla can face off against the Greek Gods, I suddenly find myself wondering how he’d far against Kratos from the God of War games. Hmmm….

If you want to pick up a copy of the entire Rage Across Time series, you can do so through IDW.
