Strand Releasing has acquired the Mexican horror/fantasy film The Untamed for North American release, according to Variety. The film has already made its way through several film festivals and this announcement comes on as it’s about to screen at the San Francisco International Film Festival. Strand is supposedly aiming for a late-summer release of the film.

The Untamed was directed by Amat Escalante and stars Kenny Johnston, Simone Bucio, and Jesús Meza.

Synopsis:
The fragile existence of a young housewife and her working class family is thrown off balance when a mysterious stranger comes into their lives and convinces them that in the nearby woods, inside an isolated cabin, dwells something not of this world that could be the answer to all of their problems. Director Amat Escalante’s shocking and controversial new film touches on themes of family values, hypocrisy, homophobia, and male chauvinism.
