We’ve just been sent some incredible information about Piranha JPN (which is being titled Summer of the Piranha outside of Japan), the new entry in the long-running aquatic horror franchise. During a TV press conference with Chako van Leeuwen (Hisako Tsukuba), Roger Corman officially announced his role as executive producer of the film and that the anticipated release date of the film is Autumn. They are currently in talks with several Japanese directors and are working on narrowing them down to the right choice. Furthermore, they are expecting to produce the film on a budget of $3 million.

Now, here’s where it gets really interesting: apparently the film will introduce a brand new piranha in the form of the “Mother Piranha”, who will not only have a giant body but also a giant set of teeth. Sounds kinda like the Alien Queen, am I right?

But the most exciting bit of news to come from this conference is that we’re being told Christopher Lloyd has committed to starring in the film! He appeared in the 2010 remake Piranha 3D as well as the 2012 sequel Piranha 3DD.
