DVD and Blu-ray Releases: March 28, 2017

Welcome back, folks. We don’t have a huge list for you, but as always, there should be something for most of you to enjoy.
First off, the movie Lavender is slated for April 1st as a release date so you’ll have to wait a couple extra days to pick your copy up.
Up next are our classics. We’re going back to 1971 with What’s the Matter with Helen?, followed by 1981’s Venom, both coming to Blu-ray this week. Our last classic title is 1989’s Witchtrap, which will also be on Blu-ray.
An honorable mention should be given to the Wishmaster Collection on Blu-ray, seeing as the first movie is now 20 years old. The collection contains all four movies.
The rest of this week’s titles are newer releases, including A Monster Calls and Easter Bunny Bloodbath, which sounds like a great children’s title for the coming holiday. Be sure to check back weekly as the next couple of weeks are pretty active.

The Abduction of Jennifer Grayson (2017)

Easter Bunny Bloodbath (2011)

Synopsis:
1967, young Peter McKay’s sister is decapitated by an ax wielding maniac dressed as the Easter Bunny. Peter never celebrates the Easter holiday again… that is until we flash forward to present day 1987. It’s here, in an isolated cabin deep in the woods, Peter and his five friends enjoy their weekend away. It’s a nice few days of partying, beer and water slides. But something white and fuzzy lurks between the trees this holiday season. And it’s hacking, stomping, slashing and hopping its way down a bunny trail of severed limbs and bleeding bodies…
Lavender (2016) (April 1st)

Synopsis:

Lavender is a taut psychological thriller that bends the line between memory and madness, past and present, like a splinter in the brain struggling to escape. With the help of her husband (Diego Klattenhoff), her estranged uncle (Dermot Mulroney), and her psychiatrist (Justin Long), Jane must weave together scattered strands of memory to solve a mystery hiding 20 years in the past. Lights Camera Blood (2016)

Synopsis:
Down on his luck and financially strapped low-budget horror filmmaker Mandalor is the laughing stock of the film community. His films are terrible, and the contrived, poorly done gore effects make them unintentional comedies of the cinema. When he presents his latest effort to sleazy exploitation film producer Gelstein of Gorrific Pictures with the hopes of getting a distribution deal, he is laughed out of the screening room. The ever-determined Mandalor, along with his trusty hunch-backed cinematographer, Rodney, sets out to do another horror film. But on their next set, as Mandalor tries in vain to direct an intoxicated and uncooperative actress, he accidentally kills her! And when he realizes Rodney captured the dastardly deed on camera, he includes the graphic footage in his film. When he screens it to an impressed and delighted Gelstein, the producer offers him a multi-picture deal to deliver more gore galore! Now a wretched plan hatches that only filmmakers with nerves of steel could carry out, along with a hatchet or a cleaver…
A Monster Calls (2016)

Mortuary Massacre (2016)

Synopsis:
Mortuary Massacre is a gruesome new horror anthology that centers around Detective Giger’s debriefing of a massive slaughter on Halloween night. The local mortician tells Giger the backstories behind three particular cadavers, and bizarre secrets start to unfold as they investigate. The mortician reveals the insanity behind a psychopathic apartment manager destined for a kill-crazy rampage, a gunslinger resurrected from the grave for blood-soaked revenge, and a homicidal actor who enjoys skinning people alive! Halloween Massacre is filled with plenty of gore, tongue-in-cheek humor, and practical special effects that will please fans of 80’s slasher flicks.

What’s the Matter with Helen? (1971)
