ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2 Production Blog: Week One
If you would have told me last year as I sat in my car doing a phone interview on my lunch break with writer/director Robert Hall for his 2009 slasher flick Laid to Rest that someday I’d end up working with him, I would have told you that you’re out of your mind. Now, here I sit almost a year and a half later at the offices of Almost Human Special EFX (Hall’s studio), and we’re well into production for ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2, giving yours truly a bird’s eye view of everything going on behind-the-scenes.
While I can’t get too down and dirty with a lot of the details on LTR 2 (because that would ruin all the fun for you fans out there!), what I can talk about is the fact that the apartment I share with fellow DC’er Brian Smith hosted production for one day this week as the place where Chromeskull survivor Tommy (Thomas Dekker) now calls home.
With LTR 2 Rob’s giving the fans the great kills they want to see and taking the story to a completely new level. This time the story is darker, the kills are bound to leave a few jaws on the floor, and we’ve assembled a quality cast of players that will move this growing franchise into a bold, new direction.
Cramming 30+ members of cast and crew in a two-bedroom apartment might sound a little crazy, but everything about this project is a labor of love so I didn’t mind in the least hosting production and getting a chance to be a tiny part of horror movie history.
Production showed up around 7 am to start prepping our place to be “filming friendly” (meaning all my horror posters and goodies had to go into hiding), and that’s when the fun started. Our bedroom was converted into what would soon be a very bloody crime scene, and our guest bedroom/office was converted into Tommy’s room.
I won’t give too much away as I am sharing some exclusive on-set photos with you, dear readers, below; but I can tell you it was by far one of the most exhausting yet rewarding days I’ve had since I made the move out to California, and seeing Rob back in the director’s chair was a treat as always.
Look for another update from Week Two coming soon!
