Roland Emmerich is no stranger to gigantic spectacles of destruction. From the totally kick-ass ID4 to the hilarious disaster porn classic 2012, the guy knows how to destroy shit on a grand scale. Word just broke that he’s working on another alien invasion flick that’s poised and ready to let the mayhem commence.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, Roland Emmerich is gearing up to shoot The Zone, a stealth project that is joining the swelling ranks of the “found footage” genre, which purport to be genuine reels, tapes or files found after the person operating the camera expires.

No plot details are known, but sources say The Zone revolves around an alien invasion, will be improv-based, and will be cast with relative unknowns. Given the fact the the budget for this flick is only $5 million and Emmerich hasn’t worked with a budget of less than $100 million since 1994’s Stargate, this could get really interesting.

Stay tuned!
