Retro Raillery in Beyond the Gates Board Game Promo

Planting both feet firmly in the VHS era, Jackson Stewart’s Beyond the Gates (review) is one of my personal favourites this year, subtly forging the canny and the comical with a whole lot of creepy.

Now, with just a few days to wait until next week’s December 9th theatrical and VOD release, a Stewart-directed faux retro commercial for the titular board game has hit the net. The promo finds Barbara Crampton resuming her role in the film, this time enticing a new (but very familiar) ill-fated group of players to roll those dice: Alex Essoe (The Neighbor, Starry Eyes), Samantha Robinson (The Love Witch), and Alena von Stroheim (Found Footage 3D).

Written by Stephen Scarlata and starring Graham Skipper (Almost Human), Chase Williamson (The Guest), and Brea Grant (Halloween 2), Beyond the Gates tells the tale of two estranged brothers who reunite at their missing father’s video store to liquidate the property and sell off his assets. As they dig through the store, they find a VCR board game dubbed ‘Beyond The Gates’ that holds a connection to their father’s disappearance and deadly consequences for anyone who plays it.

The movie hits this coming 9th December and we’ll leave you with the aforementioned retro commercial for the board game – a new dimension in fear that’ll make for the perfect Christmas stocking filler and after dinner party game!
