BioShock: Infinite Takes To The Skies – Trailer and Images!
On Thursday 2K Games announced the newest member of the BioShock franchise titled BioShock: Infinite is currently in development at Irrational Games and planned for release in 2012. YESSSSSSSS.
Here’s where it gets interesting.
As the original BioShock was set in 1959 and Part 2 in 1968, BioShock: Infinte is set in 1912, taking you from under the sea to the skies above to Columbia, an immense city in the sky. The player will step into the role of former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, sent to rescue Elizabeth, imprisoned since childhood, who develops a relationship with Elizabeth, which results in him being able to pair his abilities alongside hers to escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engaging in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds while harnessing the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.
Oh Mah Gah…I just drooled a little.
Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K, says, “We are excited to expand the world of BioShock, which is one of the industry’s most critically acclaimed and beloved franchises. We believe that Irrational Games will lend their meticulous attention to detail and unique storytelling expertise to make BioShock Infinite an incredible entertainment experience that will immerse new and die-hard fans of BioShock alike.”
Ken Levine, creative director of Irrational Games, adds, “We only had one rule: No sacred cows. This game is both true to what people love about the series and unafraid to question every assumption.”
And when asked about the new locale, Levine states, “In order to explore the floating city of Columbia, we needed an entirely new engine. To bring Elizabeth to life, we had to build brand-new animation and AI systems. To create wide-ranging indoor and outdoor firefights at 30,000 feet, we had to rethink, rebuild and expand the BioShock arsenal. The only thing gamers can be certain of is this: the rules of the BioShock universe are about to change.”
I think it’s safe to say we’re all asking the SAME thing: “Who’re they making to replace Big Daddy and the rest of the nasties of Rapture?” Good f’in question. I mean, I nearly pissed myself twice dealing with Splicers, haaa. I have a feeling that this game is gonna be a total mindfuck, and I for one couldn’t be happier!
BioShock: Infinite will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, but again … not until 2012. For more info, go to their official website.
So until then I’ll be doing what everyone else is doing: revisiting BioShock 1 and 2.
