John Carpenter Signs on to Direct Vamp Tale Fangland
Now this is how to end a week! As everyone knows, vampires are hotter than hot right now, and who better to tackle yet another toothy project than one of our original Masters of Horror, John Carpenter. Yep, JC’s next film after The Ward is going to be an adaptation of the 2007 novel Fangland.
According to Variety Fangland [is] an updated version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula set up with DAS Films and Blumhouse Prods. Sriram Das and Jason Blum are producing. Tracy Underwood’s also involved in a producing capacity.
[Written] by former “60 Minutes” producer John Marks, it’s centered on a New York-based producer who travels to Romania for an interview with a notorious European arms dealer, who turns out to be a modern-day Dracula.
Mark Wheaton (Friday the 13th ’09) penned the adaptation.
Between this news, Carpenter’s increased availability for conventions of late, and his involvement in F.E.A.R. 3, it’s starting to look like the man’s ready for a big comeback. We can only hope!
