Fans of the Alien franchise should be ecstatic right now, as not only is Ridley Scott currently filming prequel Alien: Covenant, but Neill Blomkamp is developing his own continuation of the franchise. As we recently learned, the so-called Alien 5 will be set sometime after the events of Aliens, and Sigourney Weaver is on board.

Weaver, who will of course be reprising the iconic role of Ellen Ripley, just spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming film, and she seemed very excited about the fact that Blomkamp’s script provides the beloved character with a fitting final chapter to her decades-spanning story.

It’s a great story, and it’s satisfying to me to give this woman an ending,” she told EW. “The script itself has so much in it that’s so original but also really satisfies… I would say, the primal needs of the aliens. It’s a tribute to all of the great work that the other directors have done, in a way, but goes in a completely new direction. I hope we’ll do it.”

So when can we expect to see it? Well, it could be a while.

Fox asked us to delay so Ridley could shoot [Covenant],” Weaver noted. “That was too bad because we would have already done it by now. Now that we’re waiting for that, I have a couple of Avatars to do and Neill has The Gone World, so we’ll have to see what happens when we get back [together] when those projects are over.”
