Writer/director Adam Wingard and Netflix are adapting the popular Japanese manga series Death Note, and with filming set to begin in Vancouver on June 29, we expect to learn a whole lot more about the project in the coming months. Today brings a small but exciting update, as the film has found its second unit director.

Over on Twitter, @AdamWingard revealed that Jason Eisener (Treevenge, Hobo with a Shotgun) is the man for the job.

Very excited to have this guy onboard!” tweeted Wingard. “Hopefully I can repay him the same service on his next movie.”

Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) wrote the most recent draft of the script.

The cast includes Nat Wolff, Keith Stanfield, and Margaret Qualley. Wolff (Paper Towns, The Fault in Our Stars) plays a student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone simply by writing the victim’s name. A cat-and-mouse game ensues when he’s tracked by a reclusive police officer.

Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs, and Masi Oka are producing the project. Doug Davison and Brian Witten are exec producing.
