More Drive Angry News: Cage Says It’s Another Foray into the Supernatural
None of the stories we’ve done thus far on Patrick Lussier’s Drive Angry have mentioned any sort of “supernatural” element to the film, but according to its star, Nicolas Cage, that’s exact what we have to look forward to.
In a recent interview with MTV during last weekend’s WonderCon up in San Francisco, Cage had the following scoop as to what attracted him to the project: “There’s a supernatural element to it as well, which is keeping with what my interests are right now. When I play supernatural characters in ‘Ghost Rider’ or ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ or ‘City of Angels’ or ‘Next’ or even ‘Drive Angry,’ the possibilities are limitless. The possibilities are endless, you can do so much with that.”
As for Lussier’s approach with the 3D aspect of the film, Cage said, “What’s really cool is that the 3D is from scratch — all the cameras are 3D,” referring to films like ‘Clash of the Titans’ that convert rather than create their 3D. “It’s not going to be tacked onto the movie afterwards. Patrick is very excited about it. It’s the first one [like this]; it’s like if you got to see an old ’70s action movie, but in 3D. We’re doing something semi-historical, because it’s the first 3D movie shot [in the] style of a ’70s action film. You could see Charles Bronson or Eastwood [starring in a film like this] in those days.”
Okay, now we’re officially even more excited about this film. For more of Cage’s remarks, including what prompted his “bizarre new hairstyle” (MTV’s words, not ours), click the above link or watch the interview in its entirety below.
Drive Angry, co-written by Lussier and Todd Farmer, centers on a man (Nicolas Cage) driven by rage who is chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. The vendetta/rescue spins out of control as the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies strewn along the highway. Amen.
