A Ferocious Dark Nemesis Emerges from the Apocalypse
“In a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by feuding warlords, a group of desperate soldiers hatch a plan to steal a Warlord’s treasure and start a new life. Faced with the threat of a horrific death at the hands of the Warlord’s executioners, the men escape into a desolate and forbidden land known only as the Shadowlands. Now the men must flee from the Warlord’s vicious assassins while defending themselves from the terrifying creatures that inhabit the land.“
So goes the synopsis for Dark Nemesis (originally titled Ferocious), the latest low budget creature feature from filmmaker Drew Maxwell. Maxwell’s previous effort, Carnivorous, has yet to receive a proper release, which is a shame because it has a lot going for it despite not exactly having the most stellar digital effects. I suspect the first line of my Carnivorous review will apply doubly for Dark Nemesis:
“Carnivorous is a movie a lot of people will get one eyeful of the green screen visuals in the opening minutes and immediately write-off the film as a whole.”
You’ll understand why when you watch the trailer below. Don’t be too hasty to dismiss Dark Nemesis outright because, like Carnivorous, the story and characters might just prove strong enough to overcome the budgetary shortcomings.
Hat tip to Avery and Quiet Earth.
