From the Press Release:
Cry Down Dark, being released in May 2016 by Blysster Press. is the first book from Moscow, Idaho-based author T.J. Tranchell. Tranchell’s book joins the literary tradition started by Edgar Allan Poe and continued into the modern day by Shirley Jackson and Peter Straub.
“With the same kind of homespun affability reminiscent of the early work of Stephen King or Dan Simmons, T.J. Tranchell crafts a compelling story of love and loss,” said Thom Carnell, publisher of the Goth culture magazine Carpe Noctem and author of No Flesh Shall Be Spared. “Full of spot-on descriptives, Cry Down Dark was a fun read and a tantalizing first look at a promising new writer.”
Cry Down Dark follows Peter Toombs, who deals with the death of his high school sweetheart, Diana Ward, by buying her childhood home, hoping she will return. As Peter explores Diana’s hometown of Bern, Utah, he inches closer to the truth about Diana and her death — and finds her ghost may not the only thing haunting the townsfolk.
“From the captivating first paragraph of Cry Down Dark, I was drawn into the frightening and tragic world of Peter Toombs,” said Charity Becker, Blysster Press editor-in-chief and author of the Presence horror series. “Immediately transported into Peter’s personal hell, we watch him struggle to let go of not only his lost love but the ghosts of his past, present, and future. T.J. Tranchell spins a story that throws readers right into the fray and leaves us hanging on for dear life. Strange things are afoot in Bern, Utah, so buckle up for a terrifying ride.”
At 156 pages, Cry Down Dark retails for $10.99. It is available directly from the publisher at www.blysster.com.
Synopsis:
Peter Toombs never stopped loving Diana Ward. Not after they broke up; not after she married someone else; not after she died. Peter never got over how he failed Diana when she needed him most when they were in college. Even as he became a successful TV writer, his failure haunted him more than the monsters he created to scare others. His obsession prompts him to lease Diana’s childhood home in the small Utah town of Bern. He’s convinced that if he lives there, she will come back for him.
When he sleeps, he dreams of ghosts: Diana’s, the ghost he believes should be in the house, and the ghost of someone he never met. The townsfolk, however, don’t like having a stranger in Bern. They have secrets they don’t want Peter to learn. Secrets about Diana and her death. Secrets about Peter and the ghosts that follow him. Joined by his friend Connor and Diana’s widower, Aaron, Peter must survive Bern and discover the truth behind Diana’s fate. Learning the truth could exorcise the ghosts from Peter’s life, or it could break his heart and bring him face to face with his worst fears.
