Some sad news crossed our desk just now as multiple outlets are reporting that Oscar winner Patty Duke has died at the age of 69.  She didn’t visit the horror genre very often, but when she did, her roles were memorable.

Accordingly to HuffPost, Duke’s manager released the following statement:  Anna “Patty Duke” Pearce passed away this morning, March 29, 2016, at 1:20 am. Her cause of death was sepsis from a ruptured intestine. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a friend, a mental health advocate, and a cultural icon. She will be greatly missed.

One of her sons, actor Sean Astin, posted the following tribute on Twitter:

Duke was born December 14, 1946, in Elmhurst, New York, and along with her Academy Award-winning supporting role in 1962’s The Miracle Worker, she appeared in such films/TV shows as “Night Gallery,” The Swarm, Amityville: The Evil Escapes, Look What’s Happened to Rosemary’s Baby, She Waits, and “The Wide World of Mystery.” She was also President of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) from 1985-1988.

Our condolences to Ms. Duke’s family and friends.  She will be missed indeed!
