System Shock Remastered Edition Looks Incredible

Remember System Shock? The first person sci-fi/horror game from 1994? Back in the good old days of gaming. Before paid DLC and season passes became the norm. Before micro transactions were necessary for you to proceed. Before AAA games were released with only the bare-bones minimum amount of content. Before games were released with so many different special editions that you needed a chart to see which version contained what.

But I digress. What I’m saying is, System Shock was a mighty fine game from a time when gaming was in a much simpler place. If you never got the chance to play it, then don’t fret, as a vastly updated version from developer Night Dive Studios is going to be released in the near future.

The game saw you play as a hacker in a space station going up against a malevolent AI programme called SHODAN (an acronym for Sentient Hyper-Optimized Data Access Network) whilst also facing other horrors. The remaster promises to update the game to a modern standard whilst keeping all the core elements intact and staying as true as possible to the original, so expect that overwhelming outer space creepiness to be in full force.

“After 20 years, we are remastering and re-imagining the original System Shock. We will keep the new game true to the classic experience, keeping all the things you loved, while updating the user interface and graphics to use a modern-day engine (Unity).”
