Things have been kind of quiet on the Annabelle 2 front, and for our money we’d rather the powers-that-be take their time and get it right, unlike the first Annabelle, which was about as scary as the average tweener fare.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Lights Out director David F. Sandberg (not to be confused with the director of Kung Fury of the same name) is in talks to get behind the camera on Annabelle 2. You can check out Sandberg’s short film Lights Out below while we wait for the feature version.

James Wan is once again producing, while Dave Neustadter and Walter Hamada oversee for New Line. Gary Dauberman, who penned the original, is hammering out the script.

Following the superb financial and critical reception to The Conjuring, a spinoff/prequel featuring the film’s creepy mascot – the possessed doll named Annabelle – was quickly rushed into production. Loosely based on a true story, the film follows a couple who find that their vintage doll becomes the host for a malevolent entity after their house is broken into by a satanic cult.
