67th Annual Golden Globe Awards Nominations AnnouncedThe Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees for its 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards this morning, and while the horror genre was mostly absent from the theatrical categories, it was pretty well represented on the small screen.

Stanley Tucci did receive a nod for Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for his turn as villain George Harvey in Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones (review here). If you missed it, be sure to check out our interview with Tucci and director Jackson wherein the actor discusses the challenges he faced in portraying such a “monster”.

In addition, Coraline (review here) was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film, and Neill Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell’s script for District 9 (review here) was included in the Best Screenplay – Motion Picture category.

Now, on to the really good stuff — Two of our favorite TV shows will be duking it out for Best Television Series – Drama when the Golden Globe Awards are broadcast this coming January: Showtime’s Dexter and HBO’s True Blood. Further, Anna Paquin (“Sookie Stackhouse” on True Blood) is in the running for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama, as is Michael C. Hall (“Dexter Morgan” himself) for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama.

Happily, John Lithgow is also being recognized for his stellar work on this season’s Dexter; his “Arthur Mitchell” aka “The Trinity Killer” was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. Among his competitors is Lost‘s Michael Emerson, who took home the 2009 Emmy for his always top-notch work as the cunning, mysterious Benjamin Linus.

Congratulations to all the nominees! For the full list and more details, visit the official Golden Globes site. The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast in HD Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 5-8 PM (PST) and 8-11 PM (EST) live coast to coast from The Beverly Hilton on NBC.
