The highest grossing Chinese film ever, Monster Hunt, is making its way to domestic shores as  New York-based FilmRise has teamed with Asian specialty distributor Asia Releasing to handle the outing of the 3D picture on January 22, 2016, in all major North American markets. FilmRise will be releasing two versions of the film in the U.S.: the original Mandarin version with English subtitles as well as an English language version. Theaters playing each version are listed below.

The film, which earned a whopping $225 million on a budget of around $40-$56 million after just two weeks of release, is a mixture of CGI animation and live action and tells the story of a villager named Tianyin who gives birth to a monster named Huba, who is the heir to the Monster Kingdom. Too bad that the humans of the world want to kill Huba to put an end to monsters once and for all.

Director Raman Hui (Shrek) is known for his prolific work with Dreamworks Animation and will no doubt become a heavyweight in Chinese cinema.

Synopsis:
In a mythical ancient world, monsters rule the land while humans keep to their own kingdom. But when adorable baby monster Wuba is born to a human father and monster queen, mortals and creatures alike set out to capture the newborn, and Wuba’s epic adventure begins.
