DVD and Blu-ray Releases: January 5, 2016

Greetings, fiends! Hopefully the New Year is being good to you so far. If not, we’ve got more than 20 releases for you this week.

First off, Trailer Trauma, a collection of hard-to-find and rare trailers from hard-to-find and rare movies, actually came out on the 4th instead of the 5th. So if you’ve got more than two hours to kill watching previews, this should be right up your alley.

As for our classics, you’ve got more than a handful of choices this week. In the single release category, we’ve got Spellbinder and The Phantom from 10,000 Leagues. But if you take a trip down to our Collections section, we’ve got a bunch of double features containing such movies as Night of the Living Dead, The House Where Evil Dwells and The Satanic Rites of Dracula. There is also the Queens of Scream collection, so you’ve got some decisions to make if you prefer the older flicks.

The Green Inferno will also be dropping this week. Being an Eli Roth fan, I have been looking forward to this almost with the same anticipation with which I looked forward to Ti West’s The Sacrament. My wife, on the other hand, would much rather look at Eli Roth himself. Whatever – she’s human.

Our other heavy hitters for the week are horror-comedy Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse and M. Night Shyamalan’s The Visit. I have yet to see either, but I like the cover art to Scouts Guide as it looks like a cross between The Goonies, Red Dawn and nearly every zombie movie made in the past 35 years. As for The Visit, I would bet there is a (SPOILER ALERT) major plot twist toward the end of the movie.

There are plenty of other movies to check out below so keep reading. Rehashing my sentiments from last week, I hope your 2016 makes up for whatever 2015 didn’t do for you. Pleasant viewing, and stay warm.
