Rest in Peace: Fred Thompson

The film community has lost yet another wonderful actor as news has come that Fred Thompson has passed away at age 73 from a recurrence of lymphoma. The actor, whom horror fans will remember as Sheriff Tom Broadbent in the original Sinister, also appeared in the 1991 remake of Cape Fear.

Outside of the film world Thompson was a U.S. senator for the state of Tennessee from 1994 until 2003. He also appeared in other non-genre films such as Die Hard 2, The Hunt for Red October, and Days of Thunder. TV fans will remember him as D.A. Arthur Branch in β€œLaw & Order.”

In a statement to the Nashville Tennessean, his family wrote, β€œIt is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of grief that we share the passing of our brother, husband, father, and grandfather who died peacefully in Nashville surrounded by his family.”

We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to offer our sincerest of condolences to Thompson’s many friends, family members, and constituents. Rest easy, sir. Thank you for the memories.

Fred Thompson
