Austin Stowell Joins Anne Hathaway in Colossal
Nacho Vigalondo’s next project, Colossal, has been the subject of a lawsuit between its producer, Voltage Pictures, and Godzilla rightsholder Toho for copyright infringement (a hearing on it is set for next month), but that’s not stopping Voltage from proceeding with casting for the film.
Per Deadline, Austin Stowell (Whiplash, “Public Morals”) will portray star Anne Hathaway’s love interest.
Vigalondo (Timecrimes, Open Windows) wrote and will direct Colossal with production kicking off next week. It has been alternately described as featuring a “giant monster” and a “giant robot.” Here’s the synopsis previously provided by the Voltage Pictures website:
Hathaway will be playing Gloria in the picture, an ordinary woman who, after losing her job and her fiancé, decides to leave her life in New York to move back to her home town. When news reports start surfacing that a giant monster is destroying the city of Tokyo, Gloria gradually comes to realize that she is connected to these far-off events. In order to prevent further destruction, Gloria needs to determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world.
