Ax Wound Film Festival Terrifies Vermont This Weekend
Need something to do this weekend? I mean, besides watching the Syfy’s Ominous? If you live in or around Brattleboro, Vermont, the folks at the Ax Wound Film Festival would love for you to swing by and check out their collection of horrifying short films directed by women. I know it’s short notice, but there’s still time to rearrange your life and head to Vermont for some terrifying fun.
From the Press Release:
The first annual Ax Wound Film Festival (AWFF) will take place at the Hooker-Dunham Theater & Gallery in Brattleboro, Vermont, on October 10, 2015, from 2pm-11pm. All-access wristbands are only $5 and include entry to every film screening and special event throughout the day.
Ax Wound Film Festival features a diverse selection of 34 short horror films directed by women around the globe. Some selections are high budget productions and others rock low budget DIY filmmaking skills, but each one brings an equal level of entertainment, passion, and scares across horror fans’ favorite sub-genres from zombies, slashers, supernatural, body horror, and beyond.
Filmmakers in attendance will take part in a Q&A hosted by sponsor and special guest Jay Kay of Horror Happens Radio. Panelists include Izzy Lee (Postpartum, A Favor), Rina-Fay London Monroe (Awakening), Lynne Hansen (Chomp), Leticia De Bortoli (Beauty Shot), Nicole Solomon (Small Talk aka 1-900-KILL-YOU), and Porcelain Dalya, star of the short film Penta, written and directed by Andrea Wolanin.
The festival is the brainchild of Hannah Neurotica, founder of February’s Women in Horror Month, now in its 7th year.
“After years of fantasizing about my dream film festival, I decided there was no reason not to make it happen,” Neurotica says. “I love the idea of showcasing an entire day of films–example after example of fantastic work being produced by women in the horror genre.”
AWHFF will also be sharing a new sizzle reel for the upcoming multimedia podcast/documentary MY FINAL GIRL: The Black Women of 70’s Horror followed by a live discussion with filmmaker Kristina Leath-Malin, moderated by Graveyard Shift Sisters founder, Ashlee Blackwell. As an added bonus, attending artist Manda Brezicky will feature her work in the gallery outside the theater.
The event also includes a fundraising raffle with prizes that include a 1-year subscription to Fangoria Magazine, killer goodies from Twisted Twins Productions, a gift certificate to shop Living Dead Girl Nicole, a gift certificate to Vikki Sin Art, an autographed copy of the Gonzoriffic horror movie mixtape, Pajama Nightmare, and autographed copies of Rape-Revenge Films: A Critical Study and Found Footage Horror Films: Fear and the Appearance of Reality by film critic and AWFF judge, Alexandra Heller-Nicholas.
Last but not least, there will be plenty of free goodies from pins, stickers, art prints, DVDs, and more.
Half of all AWFF profits go to benefit the Scleroderma Research Foundation.
