Sophie Cookson Tapped as Lead in The Crucifixion; Filming Begins Today!

It’s been quite some time since we last heard anything about Xavier Gens’ next horror project, The Crucifixion, but that changes now since Motion Picture Capital has signed on to fully finance and produce and principal photography commenced today in Romania.

Lotus Entertainment announced that rising star Sophie Cookson (pictured; Kingsman: The Secret Service, Emperor) will play the lead role in the supernatural thriller THE CRUCIFIXION, to be directed by Xavier Gens (The Divide, Hitman).
Peter Safran, the producer behind box office sensations Annabelle and The Conjuring, is re-teaming with the writers of The Conjuring, Chad and Carey Hayes, who penned the screenplay, which is based on true events. MPC has come on board to fully finance and produce with Safran and Lotus Entertainment, who is also handling international sales.
Safran, the Hayes brothers, and Motion Picture Capital’s Leon Clarance (“Sense8”) will produce with Lotus Entertainment’s Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel, and Ara Keshishian. MPC’s Laure Vaysse and Jo Monk and DJ Gugenheim (Andrew Lauren Productions) are executive producing.
Synopsis:
When a priest is jailed for the murder of a nun on whom he was performing an exorcism, an investigative journalist strives to determine whether he in fact murdered a mentally ill person or if he lost the battle with a demonic presence.
