SDCC 09: Chris Weitz Talks New Moon
When director Chris Weitz was first approached to direct New Moon, the second installment of the Twilight saga, he wasn’t initially sure he was up for the job.
“Everything happened so suddenly,” explained Weitz on Thursday during Comic-Con. “I had ten days to decide whether or not I thought I could do it, so I went and watched the first film. It was because of the cast that I decided I wanted to do New Moon. It’s exciting for me as a director to work with a cast of really talented young actors.”
When discussing how his film will differ from the first, Weitz said, “I am a huge fan of classical films because I am a bit of an ‘old fogey.’ Catherine (Hardwicke) is definitely more contemporary so the first one is definitely her style.”
“I wanted everything to feel lush so we focused on the cinematography in New Moon and this film will feel like an old, classic romance,” Weitz added.
