Is Steven Spielberg Eyeing a Possible Jaws Reboot?

For a lot of fans, Jaws is the one movie that should never be used in the same sentence as “reboot” or “remake.” Unfortunately, it would seem that Steven Spielberg isn’t above tossing the beloved shark flick back into the money-hungry Hollywood machine. According to a recent report, the legendary director has his eye on the future, and that includes a new version of Jaws.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the success of Jurassic World has Universal and Spielberg digging through their catalog of previous successes. If the recent report is to be believed, then both Jaws and Back to the Future could return to the big screen at some point in the future.

Here’s what THR had to say about the matter:

Spielberg, 68, who was a hands-on executive producer on Universal’s Jurassic World, is essential to future dinosaur movies (the next already is dated for June 2018) as well as associated theme-park attractions. Sources say Spielberg commanded his rich director’s fee for Jurassic World — a percentage of profit worth tens of millions of dollars — from which he then paid helmer Colin Trevorrow. He also is key on potential reboots of other Universal franchises such as Jaws and Back to the Future. Universal declined to comment, as did DreamWorks.

In short: Don’t be too surprised if another version of Jaws pops out of the cinematic waters sometime soon. Should this happen, expect a huge backlash from the film’s legion of fans.
